It sounds so ominous when we say the future is here, but shoot, time is flying by so fast, I mean, we are already in November, and that’s just a heartbeat away from the gift giving holidays.
So here’s a present for all of us – a futuristic piece of technology from The New York Times and Google Cardboard that will put virtual reality technology in the hands of people who might not otherwise give it a try. And this is an affordable way of trying this trend that is getting hotter and hotter every year.
The new platform and app NYT VR will release short journalistic films, the first of which, The Displaced, follows the lives of refugee children from South Sudan, Eastern Ukraine, and Syria. To watch the movies and step inside the shoes of the people in them,Times subscribers that receive home deliveries—all 1.1 million of them—will get free Cardboard viewers; All they have to do is download the app and stick their smartphones into the viewer to start watching.
