I remember Friday and Saturday nights were strictly for clubs and bars in Hollywood. That was then, now, I enjoy spending my weekends soaking in the LA scenery – the city lights, art, culture and music. And summer in LA is one of the best times to enjoy all of that.
Whether you live westside or east, The Getty Center on Fridays and Saturdays off the 405 is the place to be! Bringing together a network of L.A.-based musicians, performance artists, visual artists and creative thinkers, Friday Flights is an evening explosion of sights and sounds with a DJ set, thought-provoking gallery chat, video art, dance and more. And, with the word “flight” in its moniker, this Friday night gathering, taking place from 6-9 p.m. high atop the outdoor space of The Getty, expect a cash bar with local craft beer and bites. Those looking for a mid-weekend hangout can enjoy outdoor music and the summer exhibitions at Saturdays Off the 405. The evening features performances by your soon-to-be favorite bands, along with DJ sets to open and close the night.
Get there early, bring a picnic, soak in the art, and walk the botanical gardens. It’s a great way to spend a day. And very affordable and family friendly.
Do you have a favorite element of The Getty Center? Do you have a summer tradition?
