SWEATSHOP-Deadly Fashion: The show that brings ‘fashionistas’ into the world of those who make her clothes

February 2, 2015

The show may have premiered in November, but Norweigan web series “Sweatshop: Deadly Fashion” still maintains buzz. What is Sweatshop: Deadly Fashion about? It’s a 5-part social experiment that follows 3 Norwegian fashion bloggers as they work in a Cambodian sweatshop for a month, fully immersed in the garment manufacturing industry that enables their extravagant wardrobes, coveted hauls, and online popularity. Check out the trailer here.

Viewers watch as the realities of the working conditions gradually wear the bloggers down. The series, which has received over 1.5 million views, has sparked a debate about the topic and the responsibility held by fast fashion companies like H&M in Norwegian parliament as well as other countries. This is fashion for thought, and has got me thinking.

What do you think about the state of garment workers, or harsh conditions workers toil under for our sale prices?
